Year 12

In Year 12, students begin the Preliminary stage of the Higher School Certificate (HSC). They complete a minimum of 12 units of study, which must continue until the end of Week 2, Term 4, when their final HSC pattern of study is confirmed.

Some students also undertake School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) or VET courses, which must have been applied for during Year 10 subject selections. The Record of School Achievement (RoSA) remains available to students who leave prior to completing Year 12.

Senior students also begin using the Senior Learning Centre (SLC), located on the upper level of the Library. Study periods (not free periods) are spent in this space, supported by the Head Teacher Secondary Studies - Mr Keath, Toni Pearce, and Kylie Woods, who form part of the Senior Support Team. .

Curriculum Structure & Learning Timeline

Curriculum Structure and Learning Timeline

Year 11 students undertake a minimum of 12 units as part of the Preliminary HSC program. Courses include English (mandatory), Mathematics, and a range of electives chosen through the Year 10 subject selection process.

For detailed subject descriptions and assessment information, refer to the Year 12 Course and Assessment Handbook (PDF).

Students have six lessons per day on a fortnightly timetable (accessible via Sentral).

Senior students are encouraged to manage independent study effectively, using study periods within the Senior Learning Centre to review notes, plan assessments, and complete coursework.

Assessment tasks are scheduled progressively across the year to support learning and to develop familiarity with HSC-style assessment requirements. A detailed overview, including due dates and policies, is available in the Assessment Information section below.

Assessment Information

Assessment in Year 12 is based on Preliminary HSC course outcomes and requirements set by NESA.

The Year 12 Course and Assessment Handbook (PDF) outlines task schedules, weightings, and key policies on submission, late work, and academic integrity.

If a student is absent or unable to complete a task due to illness or misadventure, they should complete an Illness/Misadventure Form, available on their Year 112 Canvas page. Supporting documentation (such as a medical certificate) should be submitted promptly.

Applications for Years 10–12 are managed by the Deputy Principal, Mr Grant Godfrey.

Assessment results and feedback are provided through Canvas and Sentral, allowing students and families to track progress and identify areas for improvement.

HSC Pathway and Support Requirements

Further information and detailed procedures are available in the Year 12 Course and Assessment Handbook (PDF)..

HSC Eligibility and Pattern of Study Students must study a minimum of 12 units during the Preliminary (Year 11) course. These subjects continue until the end of Week 2, Term 4, when NESA requires confirmation of each student’s intended HSC pattern of study. After this point, students may review their pattern in consultation with the Head Teacher Secondary Studies Mr Keath and the Deputy Principal, ensuring all HSC requirements are met.

Disability Provisions for the HSC Students who may require disability provisions for their Year 12 HSC examinations should begin this process during Year 11 if they have not already done so in Year 10. Applications are coordinated through the Learning and Support Team (LST) and the Deputy Principal, with supporting documentation required from medical or allied health professionals. Early preparation ensures NESA-approved provisions are in place for both the HSC and, where appropriate, school-based assessments in Year 12.
