Lambton High School was formed by the merger of Newcastle Hill Boys High School and Hamilton Girls High School in 1974.
Lambton High School for years 7 – 12, provides a learning climate that promotes excellence in student learning, sporting endeavour, cultural growth and citizenship development. The school is also proud of its excellent results in the School Certificate and Higher School Certificate that places the school as a leading comprehensive school in the Hunter area.

Medal of the Order of Australia
In June 2013, Ms Kim Sutherland, our former Head Teacher Creative and Performing Arts and founding Musical Director of Hunter Singers received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in recognition of her outstanding service and achievement in education.
2011/12 Mary Armstrong Award, State Leadership Fellowship
One of four award recipients in the state, Principal Martin Rosser undertook a research study in the United States to analyse systems and organisational stuctures which support principals in their roles as leaders and managers.
Community Cabinet
On 29 September 2008, the Federal Cabinet (including Prime Minister Kevin Rudd) attended Lambton High School as part of the Australian Government Community Cabinet Program.

National Teacher Award
In 2008 Mrs Carolyn Hayden received the National Award for Excellence in Teaching
Green Day
Begun in 1994, the day celebrates the environment and encourages students and staff to dress in green to show support for environmental concerns and promote environmental sustainability. The celebration includes a concert which usually involves performances by the staff and students, competitions and a “best dressed” contest which awards prizes to the students who are wearing the most innovative green costumes.
Alumni
Sonya Gray was the youngest female in the World to break the minute mark for the 100m freestyle while competing at the Australian Championships in 1974. She competed at the 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch winning a gold in the 100m and 200m freestyle events. She also won silver medals as a member of the 4 x 100m freestyle and 4 x 100m medley team. She represented Australia at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal.
Jessica Malone represented Australia in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games as a 17 year old in the sport Judo. She held five Australian titles and won a gold in her division from the 2004 Oceania Championships in Noumea, New Caledonia.
Leah Poulton is a female Australian cricketer who made her test debut against England in 2009-2010
Cheryl Salisbury was captain of the Australian female national football team, the Matildas, from 1994-2009, winning 151 caps. She remains Australia’s highest female international goalscorer of all time with 38 goals in representative fixtures. Salisbury became only the second Australian female to play 100 A-internationals, which she achieved during the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Sharon Claydon, 1981 school captain, was elected the Federal Member for Newcastle in 2013.
Ben Kantarovski was contract by the Newcastle Jets in 2008 at only 15 years of age, making him the youngest player in A-League history to sign a full-time A-League contract, and one of the youngest players in world football to do so. He made his A-League debut in Round 1 of the 2008-2009 season. He was only 16 years and 208 days old making him at the time, the youngest player in A-League history.
Cameron Ivory represented Australia in the Cross Country at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland placing 8th. In 2014 he was crowned the U23 Australian Champion in Mountain Biking.
Declan Clausen, 2010 school captain, was elected to the City of Newcastle Council in 2015. The youngest councillor elected since the new Local Government Act was drawn up in 1993.
Jermaine Ale was selcted in the 2002 Australian Schoolboys Rugby League Team.
Steven Angelov was selected in the Australian Schoolboys Football (Soccer) team in 1993. He was selected in the Australian U20 World Cup Football team and participated in the 1995 World Youth Cup in Qatar. He was selected in the Australian University football team in 1999, attended the 1999 World University Games in Majorca, Spain. He has played in the National Soccer League (now the A League) for many years and was part of the 2000/2001 Woolongong Wolves National Soccer League Champions and Oceania Club Champions for that season.
